Chhattisgarh Woman Dragged On Street, Trampled To Death By Wild Elephant

A wild elephant trampled a 65-year-old woman to death on Monday in a village in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district, according to a forest official.

Pyari Toppo, the victim, encountered an elephant as soon as she left her home in the morning in the Babu Saajbahar hamlet of the Tapkara forest area, according to sub-divisional officer (forest) Naveen Nirala. He claimed that the woman was carried across the street by the elephant’s trunk before being crushed to death. According to him, the body was moved to a hospital for a post-mortem after the forest staff was notified.

A lump sum of 25,000 was given to the woman’s family right away, and the remaining 5.75 lakh will be paid out after the necessary procedures are finished, according to the official.

He stated that villagers had been informed of the recent entry of a herd of 14 elephants from neighbouring Odisha.

The lush forest at this triangular intersection, which Jashpur shares with the neighbouring states of Odisha and Jharkhand, is an ideal home for elephants.

Conflicts between humans and elephants have been a major source of worry in the state’s northern region for the past ten years, and the threat has since moved to certain districts in the centre area.

Incidents of elephant attacks have been reported in Surguja, Raigarh, Korba, Surajpur, Gariaband, Jashpur, and Balrampur districts.
