Congress leaders will march in support of Rahul Gandhi, who is scheduled to appear before the ED today

Almost the entire Congress top leadership, including the party’s two Chief Ministers, Ashok Gehlot and Bhupesh Baghel, as well as its Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs, will assemble at the AICC headquarters at 9 a.m. on Monday, the day their leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to appear before the Enforcement Directorate.

There will be sit-ins outside the ED offices in the state capitals, as well as a solidarity march to the ED headquarters. The Enforcement Directorate summoned Rahul Gandhi in connection with a money laundering case involving the National Herald newspaper.

Rahul has “agreed” to appear before the ED, according to the party. Rahul Gandhi has “agreed” to appear before the ED, according to a letter sent to all CWC members by AICC general secretary in-charge of Organization K C Venugopal, and has asked them to be present at the AICC headquarters on Monday morning in solidarity with him in his fight for justice in the “fabricated” case.

When the Gandhis appeared before the Patiala House court in the National Herald case in 2015, the party staged a similar show of force. The party held press conferences in several cities on Sunday, criticising the BJP government for engaging in “vendetta politics.” Vivek Tankha was in Lucknow, Sanjay Nirupam was in Raipur, Ranjeet Ranjan was in Chandigarh, Syed Nasseer Hussain was in Patna, Pawan Khera was in Ahmedabad, and Alka Lamba was in Dehradun.

Despite party chief Sonia Gandhi being hospitalised due to complications arising from a Covid infection, party leaders said the plan to march to the ED will go ahead as planned. A senior leader stated, “The protest will go on as planned.” “I speak as a Congress member and an advocate,” senior leader P Chidambaram said. The ED’s summons to Rahul Gandhi under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) is without merit.”
