Ravindra Jadeja is fortunate to have Dhoni by his side after three losses

Ravindra Jadeja is sweating at the start of his CSK captaincy, but he’s thankful for M S Dhoni’s calm demeanour in high-pressure situations, which allows him to field outside the circle.

This season, the defending champions have lost all three of their games. Dhoni had handed over the captaincy to Jadeja less than a week before the IPL began on March 26. However, it appears that Dhoni is still involved in on-field decision-making from behind the stumps, allowing Jadeja to stand in the deep and be one of the best fielders in the world.

When Dhoni handed the ball to Shivam Dube in the 19th over of the match against Lucknow Super Giants, it appeared that he was calling the shots. “No, because the last match (against LSG) was a high-scoring game, there are chances of catches at deep midwicket, and we thought it would be better if a good fielder was present.”

Despite a shaky start to his captaincy tenure, Jadeja insisted that he was ready to lead the team when he was given the news. “Since I was told a few months ago, I’ve been preparing for captaincy. Mentally, I was prepared to lead; there was no pressure on me, and I trusted my instincts. All I had to do was think, and whatever ideas came to mind, I pursued.”

Jadeja admitted that his team struggles in the Powerplays, but added that there is no pressure on out-of-form opener Ruturaj Gaikwad. “In Powerplay, it’s critical to take early wickets.” In the Powerplay, we need to take 2-3 wickets as a bowling unit. Deepak is sorely missed. “In terms of Ruturaj’s form, we’re not putting any pressure on him.” We’re giving him more time.”
