Nipah; Ten samples sent for testing were negative

Following the death of a 12-year-old boy from Nipah, the test results of ten of those in contact were negative. Health Minister Veena George said the results of the eight tests were negative from the Pune Institute of Virology and two from the Trunat test conducted at Kozhikode Medical College. The results of three more tests are yet to be available.

Ten of the negatives were from the child’s parents and health workers with symptoms. The minister said it was comforting at that point that those in very close contact were negative.

The Animal Husbandry team has been collecting rambutan fruits from the area. The presence of bats has been confirmed. The samples of the goat in the child’s home were also collected. NIV from Bhopal for expert examination will arrive on Wednesday.
