At least Four NCP MLAs brought back to Mumbai

Around four NCP MLAs, who were not present in the meeting organised by Sharad Pawar, has been brought back to Mumbai from Gurugram, to which they were taken prior to the formation of the BJP-Ajit Pawar government.

As per a report appeared in a leading national daily, the NCP MLAs have been liberated from the custody of the BJP by some youth wing leaders of the Maharashtra-based party.

According to the report, they have even engaged in a minor clash with BJP workers and some police officials worked at the behest of those workers during their attempt to liberate their MLAs from the clutches of the saffron party.

The move has come just a day after Ajit Pawar reemphasised his loyalty and affection towards his uncle and NCP leader, Shard Pawar, and asserted that he had the required numbers and had the blessing of his leader.

The BJP-Ajit Pawar combine will have to prove their strength in the Maharashtra Assembly in few days.

The latest development is not a good report to the combine. The move gives strength to the assessment that not many NCP MLAs are ready to assemble behind Mr. Ajit and at present he does not has the support of more than four or five MLAs.

In the 288 member Maharashtra assembly, at least 145 votes are needed to prove a majority. The BJP, with only 105 members, needs at least 39 additional supporters to legitimise its claim for the seat of power.
