Ahead of ‘Budget’, ‘Economic Survey’ to be presented today

One day before the commencement of the country’s most anticipated budget presentation, today, the economic survey, which aims to elucidate the India’s present economic position and highlight the level of the impact made by the government’s decision to demonetise the higher denomination bank notes of Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500, is set to be presented before the parliament, amidst speculations among the ruling government that the opposition, as well as regional parties, is likely to raise serious questions, seeking clear clarification from the accountable personalities like Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, against the new economic developments, which has been shaking our country violently for last few months. This is the first time in the history of the independent India that a budget is presented in February, so the anticipations over the budget are extremely high. In that sense, today’s economic survey report presentation, likely to be made by the Finance Minister of the country, possesses greater importance. The survey is expected to explain how is the demonetisation helping the Indian economy and strengthening its growth process. In addition to this, the report is likely to discuss what are the challenges faced by the modern Indian economy and how can we overcome them. Experts say that our country needs -and our citizens demand- a creative debate or discussion in the parliament over the report. But, the chances for a detailed deliberation over the report in the parliament are very less as the political parties are eagerly waiting in the parliament for showing off their muscle power and interruption skills, they added.   It is an unfortunate fact that in the parliament, most of the important decisions or bills are passed without proper discussion. We must identify that this act of clearing bill without clear deliberation among the members, who are elected by the people to represent their decision and demands in the parliament, is slowly derailing the entire concept of democracy.
