21 Unnamed Islands Of Andamans To Be Named After Param Vir Chakra Awardees

On January 23, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in an event to name the 21 largest nameless islands in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands after recipients of the Param Vir Chakra.
“Parakram Diwas” is observed on January 23.

In addition, the model of the National Memorial honouring Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, which will be erected on the island bearing his name, will be unveiled by Prime Minister Modi, according to a statement.

When Prime Minister Modi visited the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 2018, he christened Ross Island Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep in recognition of the historical importance of the islands and to honour Netaji’s memory.

Additionally, Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep were given to Neil Island and Havelock Island, respectively.

Major Somnath Sharma, Subedar and Honorary Captain Karam Singh, Second Lt. Rama Raghoba Rane, Naik Jadunath Singh, Company Havildar Major Piru Singh, Capt. GS Salaria, Lieutenant Colonel Dhan Singh Thapa, Subedar Joginder Singh, Major Shaitan Singh, Company Quartermaster Havildar Abdul Hamid, and Lt Col. Ardeshir Burzorji Tarapore will all have their on the unnamed islands.

The other Param Vir Chakra awardees after whom islands are being named are Lance Naik Albert Ekka, Major Hoshiar Singh, Second Lt. Arun Khetrapal, Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon, Major Ramaswamy Parameswaran, Naib Subedar Bana Singh, Captain Vikram Batra, Lt Manoj Kumar Pandey, Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar, and Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav (Retd).

According to the Prime Leader’s Office, the prime minister has always placed the utmost importance on paying respect to the nation’s real-life heroes. Following in similar vein, it was decided to give the 21 largest unnamed islands in the island group their names after the 21 recipients of the Param Vir Chakra.This action will serve as an enduring homage to the nation’s heroes, many of whom gave their lives to preserve the integrity and sovereignty of the country, it was stated.
