The Women and Child Development Minister, Maneka Gandhi, has ordered the state governments to inspect all Child Care Institutions, including those run by the Missionaries of Charity founded by Nobel Peace Prize Laurite Mother Teresa, after the ministry got a tipoff that some kinds of irregularities happened in the adoption of children in the MoC child care institution situated in the North Indian state of Jharkhand.

As per the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015, all Child Care Institutions operating in the country must be properly registered and must be liked with the Central Adoption Resource Authority. So far, of 6300 registered CCIs, only 2300 have been linked with the CARA; that is, still, over 4000 CCIs are left unlinked.

According to a data, more than two lakh children are living in various CCIs (in both registered and unregistered) across the country. A significant number of these children are highly vulnerable to the danger of illegal adoption. Experts say all states should take necessary steps to make sure that all CCIs strictly follow the guidelines of the 2015 JJ (Care and Protection of Children) act.

Let it be the new beginning! Protect our children from all kinds of exploitation including illegal adoption!
