VITARA BREZZA: MARUTI’S NEW STORY

Mini SUVs are hot property right now. This taller, macho looking alternative to the ubiquitous hatchback or compact sedan is so popular that every car manufacturer now has one mini SUV in their line-up. If anyone has joined the bandwagon late, it is the nation’s largest hit maker of cars – Maruti Suzuki. But, with something like the Vitara Brezza, making up the lost ground is an easy job. It has already forced competition like Ford to slash Eco sport prices by about Rs. 1.2 lakhs and despite that waiting periods for the Brezza now run to over three months!  Last month, we took one for a brief-drive.And, here is why it deserves to be a winner.

The Vitara Brezza is the first Maruti to be conceptualized, designed, engineered and built in the country. Developed by an engineering team led by Mr. C.V Raman –Chief Engineer at Maruti Suzuki, this car is designed with the Indians in mind. It measures less than 4 metres in length to avail the small car tax benefits, like the Eco sport and TUV 300. The short overhangs, the upright stance and squared wheel arches add to the butch looks. The chrome grille flanks the headlamps which houses the projector lamps and LED light guides. If anything we didn’t like about the front portion, it is the bumper that slops inwards at the bottom, when viewed from the sides. The rear has more squared-off appearance. Thanks to the edgier looking tail lamps and the license plate recess, which are situated under the chrome garnish. It addition to that it has embossed Vitara Brezza logo. The 16 inch wide wheels are adequately proportioned for the size of the car. Maruti has gone for a floating roof look with A, B and C pillars in black and the roof and D pillar in body colour or optional contrasting colour. The yellow and blue cars can be opted with white contrasting roof while the red comes in black as part of a personalization programme.
