Urban Company Soars 74% on Market Debut, Hits $3 Billion Valuation

Urban Company’s shares surged 74% on their stock market debut Wednesday, valuing the home-services platform at nearly $3 billion. The listing followed one of 2025’s most-subscribed IPOs, with bids worth $13 billion and a subscription level of 103.65 times, making it the standout among this year’s major offerings, including HDB Financial, Hexaware Tech, and Ather Energy.

The company’s stock opened at a 57.5% premium to its issue price, touched a day’s high of ₹179, and closed 62% higher at ₹166.8, exceeding analyst expectations of a 40%–51% upside. Analysts attribute the strong debut to Urban Company’s dominance in India’s fragmented home-services market, where it faces minimal competition, and see it as a long-term play on digital adoption and rising demand for on-demand services.

The blockbuster debut comes as India’s IPO market regains momentum, with expectations of record fundraising in 2025 after $7.78 billion was raised in 2024. Broader market sentiment also remained upbeat, aided by optimism around U.S.-India trade talks, with the benchmark Nifty 50 closing 0.36% higher.
