Twinkle Khanna’s “Kashmir Files” jokes are slammed as “insensitive”

Twinkle Khanna, an author and former Bollywood actress, has been chastised on social media for making a sarcastic remark about the film “The Kashmir Files” in her Sunday column for a leading newspaper.

Twinkle Khanna wrote about how she was planning to register ‘Nail Files,’ a title inspired by Vivek Agnihotri’s recently released film based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the 1990s, in her satirical column titled ‘Did Will Smith learn one-tight-slap lesson from India?’ on the shocking turn of events at the 2022 Oscars ceremony.

Twinkle Khanna wrote under the pen name ‘Mrs. Funnybones’ that the upcoming film ‘Nail Files’ could be about a “disastrous manicure,” which she described as “better than putting the final nail in the communal coffin.”

Although the film has been chastised by some critics and authors for its political message, it has performed well at the box office, grossing 331 crore as of March 11, according to figures provided by the producers in a tweet.

Twinkle Khanna, the 47-year-old daughter of Bollywood stars Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia and the wife of superstar Akshay Kumar, has been chastised on social media for being a “shallow” Bollywood personality “devoid of morals.” A Kashmiri Pandit filmmaker, Ashoke Pandit, appealed to the columnist not to be insensitive to the community’s plight.

Mr. Pandit tweeted Monday evening in response to her column, “You are too late, ma’am, @mrsfunnybones. This film (#KashmirFiles) about the genocide of #KashmiriPandits has already put the final nail in #IslamicTerrorism’s communal coffin. Please don’t be so callous about the genocide of 7 million #KashmiriPandits.”

Another user commented, “To say this, she appears foolish and insensitive. The entire Bollywood industry is shallow and morally bankrupt.”

Twinkle Khanna’s remarks come just weeks after her husband, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, congratulated “The Kashmir Files” director Steven Spielberg on the film’s success, while also joking about how it affected the box office performance of his film “Bachchhan Paandey,” which was released on March 18.

Mr Agnihotri has brought a “harrowing truth to light” through his film, according to Akshay Kumar, who is known for his pro-establishment stance in contrast to his wife’s. Twinkle Khanna hasn’t been on social media since Sunday, when she shared a link to her column on Twitter and retweeted it.
