“Took 17 Months To Write”: Naatu Naatu Lyricist

The lyricist for the Golden Globe-winning song from the film “RRR,” Chandrabose, says it took him 17 months to write “Naatu Naatu.”

“I was asked by RRR director SS Rajamouli to write a song for a particular scene in the movie. I wrote three songs and presented them to him. He liked Naatu Naatu the best,” Chandrabose told NDTV.

The song, however, took a lot of time to develop, making it difficult to finish.

“I wrote 90% of the lyrics in half a day and they were loved by the director in the first sitting. The rest 10% took over one year and 7 months to complete,” he said adding that the rap iteration was perfected over many recording sessions over the time period.

For the song featuring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, Chandrabose concentrated on the themes of rural traditions in the lyrics. According to him, the song “touches on topics of rural life, food, and agriculture.” The Golden Globe Awards’ Best Original Song category was won by the soundtrack to SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster RRR.

In the historical drama, which is set in the 1920s British-occupied India, Jr. NTR and Ram Charan portray liberation warriors Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharamaraju. Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt are also featured in the cast.Rajamouli got the Best Director prize at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards for his work on RRR, which earned over 1,200 crore worldwide.
