Thousands of Youth Protest Alleged Exam Irregularities in Jharkhand
Thousands of students and unemployed young people marched toward the state legislature in Jharkhand on Monday, protesting alleged irregularities in civil services recruitment examinations. Police used water cannons to disperse the demonstrators after some protesters crossed barricades while carrying placards, waving the Indian flag and raising slogans.
The protests, which began on July 25, were triggered by allegations including question-paper leaks in state public service examinations. Protesters are demanding an overhaul of the examination system, cancellation of certain tests and a probe by federal investigators. The demonstrations intensified after thousands gathered at a stadium in the state capital, Ranchi.
The Jharkhand government has held talks with the protesters and said it has accepted most of their demands while remaining open to further discussions. The movement comes after similar youth-led protests in Delhi over alleged medical entrance exam leaks, highlighting growing concerns among young Indians over unemployment, corruption and limited education and job opportunities.
