The government has withdrawn passports of 45 non-resident Indians for abandoning their wives, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi said.

The integrated Nodal Agency made a front into the matter has been declaring lookout circulars to absconding husbands in cases of NRI weddings and 45 passports have been seized by the External Affairs Ministry, Ms Gandhi said.

Ms. Gandhi said the government has also introduced a Bill in Rajya Sabha to give justice to the women who have abandoned by their NRI husbands, but expressed dismay that the Bill has got stalled in the upper House.
