Streambox Media Launches Dor: A Smart TV Subscription Service to Revolutionize Home Entertainment
Streambox Media, a two-and-a-half-year-old startup backed by Micromax Informatics and other prominent investors, has launched “Dor,” a subscription-based smart TV service designed to offer a seamless, all-in-one home entertainment solution. Set to debut on Flipkart on December 1, Dor combines a high-quality 4K QLED television with access to over 24 streaming apps, 300+ live TV channels, gaming, and news—all for a fixed monthly fee of ₹799. The service targets India’s underpenetrated connected TV market, with the goal of making premium content more affordable and accessible to households across the country.
Dor’s innovative TV-as-a-service model integrates hardware and content into a single subscription. Users pay an upfront activation fee starting at ₹9,999 for a 43-inch TV, with a 12-month lock-in period and a monthly fee. Key OTT platforms such as Prime Video, Jio Cinema, Disney+ Hotstar, and others are included, with Netflix coming soon. The TVs, featuring 4K Ultra HD resolution, Dolby Audio, and a solar-powered remote, are manufactured in India, leveraging Micromax’s production expertise. Dor aims to tap into the significant potential of India’s TV market, where only 50 million of the 200 million TV-equipped households currently have connected TVs.
Despite facing challenges from similar subscription-driven models that have struggled globally, Dor’s approach could gain traction by addressing affordability concerns. Analysts suggest that the all-in-one service is well-positioned to appeal to India’s price-sensitive consumers, with standalone smart TVs and OTT subscriptions typically costing much higher. Streambox Media plans to expand the service beyond Flipkart to other platforms and physical outlets, with larger TV models expected to launch in 2025. The company is focused on building consumer trust, offering a four-year warranty and robust customer support to ensure a positive user experience.
