Sri Lankan President dissolves parliament

The President of the Island country of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena, has dissolved its parliament as the new Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa, he appointed recently ousting Ranil Wickremesinghe from the post has confessed openly that he could not prove his majority in the parliament.

The Sri Lankan President’s move to replace a respected PM with a person, who was badly tainted for his past actions against a section of society in the country and even for corruption, invited serious criticism when the information about the political development was initially publicised. Actually, it was the reason that he decided to organise a parliament session for the newly elected leader to prove his majority in the house.

But, now, with no sigh of the success for that proposed development, he has no choice left but to dissolve the parliament and pave way for a fresh election with a hope that the votes will support his decision and elect those stand in favour of his decision.

However, the things are less likely to be that simple for the president. The ousted PM has decided to challenge the decision taken by the president to dissolve the parliament in the top court of the country, pointing the fact that the president has no right to take such a decision as per the constitution.

The country is likely to witness a snap election on January 5, 2019.
