Shocking Twist in Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Killers Planned to Fake Wife’s Death

In a chilling revelation, Meghalaya Police disclosed a sinister plot in the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. According to PTI, the suspects, led by Raj Kushwaha—allegedly the boyfriend of Raja’s wife, Sonam—initially planned to murder an unknown woman, burn her body, and pass it off as Sonam’s, allowing her to vanish undetected. The conspiracy, which began in February in Indore, also included alternate plans such as faking Sonam’s drowning in a river.

The group arrived in Assam days before the couple’s visit on May 19. On May 23, Sonam and two accomplices, Akash and Vishal, lured Raja to Weisawdong Falls near Sohra, where he was brutally murdered with a machete and his body dumped into a gorge. Police say Sonam later fled disguised in a burqa, traveling through multiple states before returning to Indore. Meanwhile, the suspects tried to stage her as a victim of abduction to mislead investigators.

Authorities arrested the accused after tracing Sonam’s movements and recovering key evidence, including a blood-stained raincoat and the abandoned scooter. All five suspects have been remanded to eight days of police custody, and officers are preparing to file a charge sheet within the mandated 90 days. The case has drawn comparisons to earlier infamous murders and sparked public outrage, with Sonam’s own family severing ties and demanding the harshest punishment if found guilty.
