SBI Reports Cyberattack Exposing Nearly 3,900 Customer Records
State Bank of India (SBI) reported a cyberattack that led to the exposure of 3,897 customer records on the dark web, according to Reuters on October 21, 2026. The bank’s preliminary analysis found that the leaked information included customers’ names, mobile numbers, dates of birth, email addresses, residential addresses, customer identifiers and loan records.
SBI has engaged an independent cybersecurity agency to conduct a comprehensive assessment and investigate the nature and extent of the data leak. The investigation aims to determine how the information was exposed and assess the overall impact of the incident.
The bank stated that the data breach is not expected to have a material impact on its core business operations, financial performance or business continuity. The incident comes amid increased regulatory attention to cybersecurity, as India’s banking regulator continues to urge financial institutions to strengthen their security systems against growing cyber threats.
