Road In South Delhi Caves In, Dog And 2 Motorbikes Fall Into Sinkhole

On Wednesday, a road in the RK Puram neighbourhood of New Delhi crumbled, sending one dog and two parked motorcycles into the resulting sinkhole.

The moment a section of the road caved in was captured on video, which was published on Twitter by ANI and confirmed by Delhi Police. Around 12:40 in the afternoon, the incident happened. The police stated that no fatalities were reported.

According to PTI, a senior police officer later stated that no injuries were reported and that the road had been fixed. A dog can be seen dozing off on the street in the footage next to two motorcycles that are parked. A short while later, a section of the road abruptly collapses, sending the dog and one of the motorcycles flying into the water. While onlookers rush to the spot, scrambling for safety, another part of the road also caves in moments later and sends the second motorcycle falling into the sinkhole.

Just a few hours ago, ANI posted the video, and since then, it has received over 43,000 views. While some Twitter users criticised the construction in the comments, others voiced worry about the dog because it was impossible to tell how the canine was doing from the footage.

Sinkholes can develop in a number of ways, but they frequently happen when the soil beneath the surface of the land dissolves into the water below and is washed away, leaving an open cavern with only a thin layer of Earth covering it. Groundwater pumping and construction activities can change the natural ground structure and water drainage patterns, which can result in sinkholes.
