Putin Ratifies India–Russia Defence Logistics Pact

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law ratifying the Reciprocal Exchange of Logistics Agreement (RELOS) with India, formally approving an intergovernmental framework to strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries. The agreement has been published on Russia’s official legal portal, marking an important step in deepening long-standing military ties.

Under the pact, India and Russia will facilitate the movement and deployment of military formations, allow warships to dock at each other’s ports, and permit the use of airspace and airfield infrastructure by military aircraft. The agreement also provides logistical support for joint military exercises, training programmes, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief operations, and other mutually agreed activities.

Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov highlighted India’s importance as a key economic and strategic partner, describing Russia as one of the major pillars of a multipolar world order for New Delhi. The defence pact aligns with broader strategic cooperation, coming shortly after Putin’s visit to India, during which he reaffirmed commitments on energy supplies and underscored the enduring strategic partnership between the two nations.
