PM Modi: Two Crore Families in Rural India Will Be Given Pucca Houses

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said after inaugurating 5.21 lakh houses of beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY)-Gramin in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday that homeownership has empowered women and strengthened their voice in household financial matters.

Modi virtually took part in the griha pravesh (housewarming) of the beneficiaries, emphasising the importance of state cooperation in the implementation of central policies.”Our government has provided pucca houses to 2.5 crore families across the country,” Modi told them, “of which 2 crore houses are in rural areas.” In Madhya Pradesh, more than 30 lakh PM Awas houses have been approved, with more than 24 lakh having been completed.”

“The Shivraj Singh Chouhan government (in MP) deserves to be applauded not only for effectively implementing the Centre’s schemes but also for extending its benefits to the most backward tribals, who had never thought of owning a pucca house (earlier),” he said, emphasising the participation of backward tribes such as Baiga, Sahariya, and Bharia. Speaking about the importance of water conservation, Modi promised the beneficiaries that 75 Amrit Sarovars would be built in each district of the country by next year. He suggested that these ponds be brand new and large. “The MGNREGA benefit can be used in their construction.” “It will play a critical role in environmental protection and promotion,” he said.

Modi also stated that the PM Awas Yojana is the first step toward poverty alleviation, which was previously limited to slogans. “The poor will be able to concentrate on their children’s education and other works with confidence if they sleep under a pucca roof.”

“A provision of Rs 10,000 crore has been made in next year’s state Budget to ensure construction of 10 lakh houses under PM Awas in the next three years,” said Chief Minister Chouhan, who was on an official tour of Chhatarpur district. In addition to houses, the beneficiaries will receive toilets, cooking gas, electricity, and drinking water.”
