Pfizer Halts Premarin Vaginal Cream Sales in India
Pfizer has temporarily suspended the sale of its Premarin vaginal cream in India due to supply challenges, reducing treatment options for women experiencing menopause-related symptoms. The company stated that it is working to resolve the issue and resume supplies as soon as possible. Premarin is commonly prescribed to treat vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, and other symptoms caused by declining estrogen levels during menopause.
The cream has been one of the leading estrogen therapy products in India, accounting for more than half of the units sold in its category over the past year. According to market data, Premarin generated around ₹266 million in sales during the 12 months ending June 2026. It is currently listed as out of stock on several major online pharmacy platforms, including Netmeds, Tata 1MG, MedPlus Mart, and Truemeds.
Healthcare experts warn that the shortage could leave many patients with limited treatment alternatives, as India has very few locally available vaginal estrogen therapies. With nearly 400 million women aged 45 and above expected in India by 2026, awareness and demand for menopause care continue to grow, making the temporary suspension a significant concern for patients and healthcare providers.
