Noida Workers’ Protest Turns Violent
Factory workers’ protests in Noida escalated into violence on Monday, prompting police to use tear gas and what officials described as “minimum force” to restore order. The unrest, now in its fourth day, saw protesters torch vehicles, hurl stones, and clash with security personnel across parts of the industrial township, one of Asia’s largest manufacturing hubs.
Workers say the demonstrations are driven by rising living costs and long-standing labor grievances. Many are demanding higher wages, fixed working hours, and proper compensation for overtime. Some participants initially protested within factory premises but later joined larger street demonstrations as the movement spread across multiple industrial units.
Authorities stated they are working to de-escalate tensions, urging workers to maintain peace while offering dialogue. Officials emphasized ongoing efforts by police and administrative teams to counsel protesters and address concerns. The unrest follows similar labor protests in nearby regions, highlighting growing pressure on industries amid economic strain.
