NHAI Launches Digital Toll Pass for Local Residents
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a digital Local Pass facility and the AI-powered MargMitra Help Centre through its RajmargYatra mobile app. The new Local Pass allows residents living within a 20-kilometre radius of eligible toll plazas to purchase a monthly unlimited-travel pass online without visiting the toll plaza.
The service has been launched initially at Delhi’s Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza and will gradually expand to other locations. The app uses consent-based integration with DigiLocker and VAHAN to verify users’ address, vehicle details, and FASTag information, while GIS-based location verification confirms eligibility without requiring physical documents.
NHAI has also launched MargMitra, a multilingual grievance and assistance platform that supports all 22 scheduled Indian languages. The AI-powered service helps users with FASTag services, refunds, KYC, toll pass queries, and complaint registration, while enabling real-time tracking of grievances. According to NHAI, the RajmargYatra app has already facilitated over 80 lakh annual passes and is available on both Android and iOS.
