‘NDA government scraps UPA’s welfare schemes’: Congress Supremo
The Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, alleged the BJP-led centre government is not keen to implement welfare schemes formulated by the UPA regime for the betterment of the underprivileged people. While speaking at a function organised to commemorate former Maharashtra Chief Minister late Shankarrao Chavan, the Congress chief claims that the BJP government undermined the welfare projects putting the backward section of the society in deep trouble. She added that the centre is more enthusiastic to formulate pro-rich policies. She intentionally bought in arguments about the huge loan waivers, offered to the rich capitalist sections, to strengthen her point. The Modi government failed in articulating feasible policies to bring down the farmer suicide rate, she further added. Moreover, Sonia, in her mesmerising speech, criticised the centre government for playing power politics, saying the greed for power prompted the BJP government to topple the democratically elected governments of Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh mercilessly. The Congress president expressed satisfaction over the Supreme Court order, which came as a defence to democracy. The Supreme Court of India, through a historic order, had recently quashed the Governor’s decision to dismiss the democratically elected government of Arunachal Pradesh, and restored the congress government in the state. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Maharashtra state congress president Ashok Chavan have also participated in the function, and expressed their viewpoints. The Congress supremo unveiled a giant statue of Shankarrao Chavan, and inaugurated a museum dedicated to the former political leader at Central Maharashtra.
