MG Hector Hawk Debuts in India Today with Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain and 1,000 km Claimed Range
JSW MG Motor India is set to unveil the new MG Hector Hawk today, introducing its first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) for the Indian market. Positioned as a “New Energy Vehicle” (NEV), the SUV is expected to combine a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery pack. The company claims the SUV can deliver a driving range of up to 1,000 km on a full fuel tank and battery charge, making it suitable for both city commuting and long-distance travel.
The Hector Hawk is expected to be based on the globally available Wuling Starlight 560 and will likely be offered in both five-seat and seven-seat configurations. The hybrid powertrain is expected to produce around 197 PS of power and up to 239 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 kmph sprint in under 10 seconds and a top speed of around 170 kmph. Inside, the SUV is expected to feature a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with MG’s Ling OS, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, leather upholstery, wireless phone charging, automatic climate control, connected car technology and cruise control.
On the safety front, the MG Hector Hawk is expected to come equipped with Level 2 ADAS, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, six airbags, a 360-degree HD camera and Electronic Stability Program (ESP). With its official launch scheduled for July 16, the Hector Hawk is expected to become one of India’s first mainstream plug-in hybrid SUVs, offering buyers a practical alternative between conventional fuel-powered vehicles and fully electric models.
