Marina and Elliot beach soon to be made accessible for PWDs, permanently

After years of persistent efforts by disability rights groups and personal voice of many, Chennai’s popular beaches Marina and Elliot soon going to made accessible for people with disabilities.

The Board of Directors of Chennai Smart City have approved a proposal to draft a Detailed project Report to make beaches accessible. Chennai municipal corporation authorities plan to construct a permanent ramp.  The Greater Chennai Corporation is in the process of selecting a consultant for the same.  

“Last year on World Disability Day, The Greater Chennai Corporation and Vidya Sagar associated to mark awareness of accessible beach. They had set up a temporarily accessible pathway across the Marina beach. Around 250 plus people had participated with a voice to make a permanent solution.”

Authorities will be soon constructing with eco-friendly design. They look forward to bring the infrastructure followed in foreign countries to ensures it’s up to the global standards.
