India’s Sargam Koushal Is Mrs World 2022, Brings Crown Back After 21 Years

At a gala ceremony in Las Vegas today, Sargam Koushal, who is representing India, was named Mrs. World. Mrs. Koushal defeated competitors from 63 nations to return the trophy to India after a 21-year absence. The Mrs. India pageant announced the news on Instagram with the caption, “The long wait is over, it’s been 21 years and we got the CROWN back!” Jammu and Kashmir native Sargam Koushal released a video expressing her joy at winning the championship.

“We’ve got the crown back after 21-22 years. I’m so excited. Love you India, love you world,” the newly-crowned Mrs World said.

Mrs. Koushal reportedly has a masters degree in English literature, based on her Instagram posts. She mentioned that her spouse is a member of the Indian Navy and that she had previously worked as a teacher in Vizhag.

The first pageant for married ladies is called Mrs World. The Mrs. America Pageant served as the inspiration for the creation of the pageant in 1984. The pageant’s original name was Mrs. Woman of the World. Only in 1988 did it begin to be recognised as Mrs. World. Over the years, more than 80 nations have entered Mrs. World, with Americans producing the most victors.

India has only ever claimed the coveted Mrs. World crown once, in 2001, when Dr. Aditi Govitrikar did so. Currently serving as a judge for Mrs. India Inc. 2022–2023, Dr. Govitrikar.

Aditi Govitrikar also congratulated Mrs Koushal on the feat. Mrs Govitrikar wrote: “Heartiest congratulations @sargam3 @mrsindiainc so happy to have been part of the journey.. it was time the crown came back after 21 years.” For the final round, Koushal wore a pink centre slit glittery gown designed by Bhawna Rao and was mentored for the runway by pageant expert and model Alesia Raut.
