India’s EXIM Bank Plans $10.5 Billion Fundraise Amid Global Uncertainty
Export-Import Bank of India plans to raise nearly 995 billion rupees ($10.5 billion) during fiscal 2027 through domestic and overseas borrowings, as the lender aims to strengthen its funding base and support export financing. Managing Director Harsha Bangari said improved investor confidence, reflected in tighter bond spreads, has encouraged the bank to explore foreign-currency fundraising opportunities.
The bank expects to raise around 660 billion rupees from India’s domestic market using bonds, loans and certificates of deposit, while another $3.5 billion will come from overseas bilateral and syndicated loans. However, Bangari said the bank will remain cautious about the timing of fresh borrowing due to ongoing geopolitical tensions and market volatility linked to the Middle East crisis.
The conflict involving Iran and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz have increased shipping costs and affected exporter sentiment, prompting EXIM Bank to moderate its loan growth forecast to 10% in fiscal 2027 from 12% a year earlier. Despite concerns over slower imports and trade uncertainty, the bank said it still maintains a strong pipeline of projects and continues to assess the impact of the crisis on its global loan exposure.
