India Signs US Deal to Buy Javelin Anti-Tank Missile Systems
India has signed an agreement with the United States to purchase Javelin anti-tank missile systems for the Indian Army, the U.S. Embassy in India said on Friday. The value of the deal was not disclosed. The medium-range guided missile system is jointly produced by Lockheed Martin and RTX and is designed to engage various targets, including armoured vehicles.
The Javelin system is already used by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps as well as several international customers. U.S. Ambassador Sergio Gor said the agreement could create new opportunities for defence-industry cooperation between India and the United States and strengthen the defence industrial bases of both countries.
The deal comes as India and the U.S. continue to deepen their defence partnership despite tensions in other areas of bilateral relations. The two countries signed a 10-year defence framework agreement in October, while defence cooperation has remained largely resilient amid disagreements over trade, tariffs and India’s continued purchases of Russian oil.
