Gujarat Dairy Plant Raided for Adulterated Milk, 1,370 Litres Destroyed
Authorities in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district busted a major milk adulteration racket at Shree Satya Dairy Products in Himatnagar. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) revoked the plant’s licence after 1,370 litres of unsafe milk were voluntarily destroyed on site. The joint raid with the Gujarat Food Safety Department also led to the seizure of large quantities of adulterated milk and buttermilk, along with chemicals used to fake milk quality.
The plant was found mixing water, milk powder, caustic soda, refined oils, detergent powder, and urea fertiliser to artificially increase thickness, foam, and protein content. Police seized 450 kg of whey protein, 625 kg of skimmed milk powder, 300 kg premium SMP powder, and other adulterants. Around 1,962 litres of adulterated milk and 1,180 litres of adulterated buttermilk meant for distribution were also confiscated.
The racket, reportedly ongoing for five years, led to the arrest of four employees and a juvenile. The plant owner, Rakesh alias Dhamo Patel, remains absconding. Authorities are investigating the supply chain and have shut the plant permanently, with further legal action pending against the accused.
