Gadkari Slams Bureaucratic Inaction, Stresses Need for Fast Decisions

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has criticised bureaucratic delays, saying he values people who take decisions over those who hide behind procedures. Speaking on the Series C podcast by Masters’ Union, Gadkari remarked that while he appreciates honest officials who deliver results, he strongly dislikes honest people who avoid taking decisions and stall progress.

Highlighting how excessive paperwork slows projects, Gadkari took a light-hearted swipe at officials who sit on files instead of clearing them. He said indecision is often disguised as procedure, leading to endless surveys, discussions, committees and sub-committees that replace real intent with delay, ultimately crippling infrastructure development.

The minister emphasised that transparency, teamwork and fast-track decision-making are essential for India’s growth. He added that officials should not be punished for genuine, bonafide mistakes, as fear of consequences discourages initiative, but warned that those acting with bad intent should face strict action.
