From Needles to Cars: 5 of the Weirdest Guinness World Records Ever Set
The Guinness World Records is a book of extraordinary achievements, feats of strength, and acts of bravery. While most of the records listed are impressive, there are some that are just plain bizarre. From pinning needles to inserting rods, here are 5 of the weirdest Guinness World Records of all time.
- Most needles inserted into the head: The world record for the most needles inserted into the head belongs to a man named Wei Shengchu from China. He inserted a whopping 2,009 needles into his head in just under two hours. While some people might cringe at the thought of having even one needle inserted into their skin, Wei Shengchu seemed unfazed by the pain. He later explained that he had been practicing this art for over 30 years and that it was a form of meditation for him.
- Longest time spent in direct contact with ice: Dutchman Wim Hof, also known as the “Iceman”, holds several world records related to extreme cold exposure. One of his most impressive feats is the longest time spent in direct contact with ice. In 2011, he stood in a container filled with ice cubes for 1 hour and 52 minutes, beating his own previous record by over 10 minutes.
- Most milk squirting out of the eye: This is a record that you probably didn’t know existed, but it does. The most milk squirted out of the eye is 97 ml (3.3 oz) and was achieved by Ilker Yilmaz from Turkey. While this might seem like a fun party trick, we do not recommend trying this at home. In fact, doctors warn that squirting any liquid out of your eyes can lead to serious eye infections.
- Longest fingernails on a pair of hands (ever): The longest fingernails on a pair of hands (ever) belong to Lee Redmond from the USA. Her nails measured a total of 8.65 meters (28 feet 4.5 inches) in 2008, before she lost them in a car accident. According to Lee, growing her nails to such lengths was a 30-year journey, and she was often stopped in public by people who wanted to take pictures with her.
- Most cars balanced on the head: John Evans from the UK holds the record for the most cars balanced on the head. In 1999, he balanced a total of 11 cars on his head for 33 seconds. While this might seem like a superhuman feat, John actually used a custom-made helmet that helped distribute the weight of the cars evenly across his head.
In conclusion, while some of these world records may seem strange and even a bit dangerous, they all require a great deal of skill, dedication, and hard work to achieve. While most of us will never come close to breaking a world record, we can still appreciate the ingenuity and creativity that goes into these bizarre achievements.
