Four New Flyovers in Cochin
Kochi would get four flyovers at a cost of Rs 1,158 crore, according to PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju. They are being planned at Edappally, Palarivattom, Vyttila and Kundanoor junctions.
At a meeting convened to announce the plan, he said that the flyovers will be completed within three years given the approval. MLAs Benny Behanan, Dominic Presentation, Hibi Eden, Mayor Tony Chammany, Deputy Mayor Bhadra Satish, Kalamassery municipal chairman Jamal Manakkadan were also present at the meeting.
The National Highways Authority of India conducted a feasibility study in this respect. The state government would seek a grant from the Centre to build the flyovers.
The cost of the flyover at the 4 different localities are estimated at around,
Rs 706.09 crore in Edappally
Rs 110.03 crore in Palarivattom
Rs 251.22 crore in Vyttila
Rs 90.84 crore in Kundanoor
The six-lane flyover is planned in four tiers at Vyttila. A four-lane flyover would connect Sahodaran Ayyappan road and Tripunithura. The top tier goes for the Metro rail.
The flyover is proposed to start from Edappally Toll through Marottichuvadu, ending near the Oberon Mall at Edappally. A four-lane flyover is proposed over the existing four lane road.
Another four-lane flyover would be on the Palarivattom-Kakkanad Road.
The plan is to build a six-lane flyover, at Kundanoor junction to ease the traffic on NH 49.
