Former Congress legislator Alpesh Thakor to contest in BJP ticket in Gujarat

Former Congress legislator Alpesh Thakor, who was one of the three star campaigners of the faction led by the Grand Old Party against the saffron faction during the 2017 Assembly Election in Gujarat, is set to contest in the BJP ticket from Radhanpur in the upcoming By-Election in the state.

Mr Thakor resigned from the party prior to the commencement of the General Election, along with Dhawalsinh Zala, who was also a Congress legislator then.

In the upcoming By-Election, Mr Zala will also contest in the BJP ticket. He will contest from the Bayad constituency.

The BJP has also announced their candidates for the four seats which saw their MLAs elected to the parliament in the recent General Election.

The upcoming election can influence the course of politics in the India’s western state of Gujarat.

Notably, the Congress has not yet selected their candidate for the seat in which its former icon, Mr Alpesh, will contest in the BJP ticket.

The Congress is likely to set their most powerful candidate for the seat. It will do everything possible to make sure that Mr Alpesh does not get an easy win.

During the 2017 Assembly Election, Alpesh Thakor, Hardik Patel and Jignesh Mevani were the three star campaigners of the party. Though the party failed to grab the seat of power of the state in that election, it managed to considerably reduce the strength of the saffron force in the state.
