EPFO Launches EES-2025 to Help Employers Regularise Past EPF Non-Compliance
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a one-time compliance initiative, the Employees’ Enrolment Scheme (EES)-2025, giving employers a six-month window to voluntarily regularise past lapses in EPF coverage. Announced through an official statement, the move is aimed at expanding social security coverage while offering employers a simplified, dispute-free route to correct earlier non-compliance.
Under EES-2025, employers can enrol eligible employees who were left out of EPF coverage between July 1, 2017, and October 31, 2025. The scheme, which opens in November 2025, also allows establishments that were previously outside the EPF Act to apply for coverage and declare eligible workers. EPFO said the time-bound window is intended to encourage voluntary compliance and reduce litigation arising from delayed or missed enrolments.
A key highlight of the scheme is limited liability relief on past dues. Where employee contributions were not deducted earlier, employers will need to pay only the employer’s share along with applicable interest, administrative charges, and penal damages capped at ₹100. Once settled, the payments will be treated as full compliance under EPFO-administered schemes. EPFO has urged employers to use this opportunity to support its goal of “Social Security for All,” backed by awareness campaigns and direct outreach to defaulting establishments.
