Bollywood Actor Imran Khan Asked to Leave India After Joining Protest
Indian authorities have reportedly asked Bollywood actor Imran Khan, a 43-year-old US citizen, to leave India by October 28 after he participated in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Mumbai. According to local media reports, authorities believe his participation may have violated Indian immigration and visa regulations governing foreign nationals.
Khan attended a rally on October 10 organised by the Cockroach Janta Party, demanding the resignation of the election commission chief over voter list revisions. Critics and opposition parties have alleged that the revisions favour Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party. Following the protest, a complaint was reportedly filed against the actor at a Mumbai police station, prompting the Foreigners Regional Registration Office to issue a notice asking him to leave the country.
The actor reportedly shared an Instagram post on the day of the protest, joking that he was going for a drive alongside a photograph of himself posing with a victory sign in what appeared to be a police van. Khan, who is actor Aamir Khan’s nephew, rose to fame through several successful Bollywood films between 2008 and 2015 before stepping away from acting. He had not immediately responded to Reuters’ request for comment.
