Babar Azam Scores a Century Against the West Indies, Breaking Virat Kohli’s ODI Record

Babar Azam, Pakistan’s captain, continued his hot streak in international cricket with a century in the first ODI against the West Indies in Multan, laying the groundwork for an exciting chase that saw the hosts reach the target of 306 runs with four balls to spare. The cornerstone of Pakistan’s innings was Babar’s 103 off 107 balls. Imam-ul-Haq (65) and Mohammad Rizwn (59) were his staunch supporters.

Khushdil Shah, who remained unbeaten on 41 off just 23 balls, provided the finishing touch. Since taking over as Pakistan’s captain, Babar has amassed over 1000 runs in ODIs. He did so in just 13 innings, breaking former India captain Virat Kohli’s previous record of 17 innings. The Pakistan Cricket Board took to Instagram to congratulate Babar on his success.

Babar Azam needed 98 runs before the match started to match Kohli’s score, and he did so in style. The Pakistan captain is currently the best player in international cricket, ranking first in T20Is and ODIs and fourth in Tests.

It should be noted, however, that 7 of these 13 innings have occurred on flat ground at home. But that doesn’t change the fact that Babar is one of the best batters on the international stage right now.
