Apple Accused of Delaying Antitrust Case by Challenging Penalty Law

India’s competition regulator has told a New Delhi court that Apple is attempting to slow down ongoing antitrust proceedings by challenging the country’s penalty framework. The claim comes as Apple contests the legal basis used to determine fines for companies found abusing market dominance.

According to the Competition Commission of India (CCI), Apple’s petition questions the provision that allows the regulator to calculate penalties based on a company’s global turnover, rather than revenue generated solely within India. The CCI argued in its court filing that this challenge is a strategic move aimed at delaying the investigation and enforcement actions already underway.

Apple filed its challenge last month, asserting that the current penalty system is disproportionate and should consider only its India-specific operations. The legal dispute adds another layer to the broader probes examining the tech giant’s alleged anti-competitive practices in the Indian digital ecosystem.
