Air India Reduces International Flights Amid Middle East Conflict and Rising Fuel Costs

Air India has announced temporary cuts to several international routes between June and August due to escalating Middle East tensions, airspace restrictions, and soaring jet fuel prices. The airline said the ongoing regional conflict has forced longer flight rerouting and increased operating costs, putting additional pressure on global airline operations.

The carrier will suspend flights on the Delhi–Chicago and Mumbai–New York routes, while reducing frequencies on services from Delhi to Paris, Milan, and Rome. Flights between Delhi and Shanghai will also be temporarily halted. Air India stated that despite the changes, it plans to continue operating more than 1,200 international flights each month and hopes to restore normal schedules once conditions improve.

The airline is also facing internal challenges, including mounting financial losses and leadership changes following the resignation of CEO Campbell Wilson earlier this year. Singapore Airlines, which holds a stake in Air India alongside Tata Sons, remains closely involved as the airline navigates operational disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions and Pakistan’s continued airspace restrictions on Indian carriers.
