Aditya Birla Plans $1.26 Billion Expansion of Odisha Alumina Refinery
India’s Aditya Birla Group has proposed investing an additional $1.26 billion to significantly expand its alumina refinery at Kansariguda in Odisha. The project, to be carried out by Hindalco Industries, aims to increase the refinery’s production capacity from its current level to 3 million metric tons per year, strengthening the company’s presence in the aluminium value chain.
With the latest proposal, the total planned investment in the Kansariguda refinery will rise to approximately $2.1 billion, according to the Odisha government. The expansion is expected to enhance alumina production capacity and support the growing demand from India’s aluminium industry.
The investment reflects Aditya Birla Group’s continued focus on expanding its manufacturing footprint in Odisha, a key hub for the country’s mining and metals sector. The project is expected to contribute to industrial growth, generate employment opportunities, and reinforce India’s position as a major producer of aluminium and related materials.
