Quad Nations Push for Secure Global Supply Chains

Foreign ministers from the United States, Australia, India and Japan have pledged to strengthen reliable global supply chains and raised concerns over arbitrary export restrictions and unfair trade practices. At their meeting in Atlanta on October 31, the four nations highlighted the importance of economic security in maintaining stability and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific region.

In a joint statement, the ministers expressed concern over economic coercion, non-market policies and practices that could disrupt supply chains in critical industries. They also stressed the need to protect navigation rights in the Strait of Hormuz, the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Additionally, the Quad pledged more than $85 million to support trusted artificial intelligence technologies and announced plans to identify vulnerabilities in semiconductor supply chains.

The meeting also paved the way for a possible Quad leaders’ summit in Manila next month, which could be the first such gathering since 2024. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the group was not an anti-China alliance but remained concerned about certain trade practices. The four nations also discussed expanding business cooperation, digital infrastructure and joint disaster response initiatives.
