Delhi Airport’s Third Runway to Begin Operations
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport will make its third runway, Runway 11R/29L, operational from September 20, 2026. The runway is expected to improve aircraft movement, reduce runway occupancy time and strengthen operational reliability during different weather conditions.
The runway underwent an extensive rehabilitation programme that began in February. The work included resurfacing, pavement strengthening, a new Rapid Exit Taxiway, improved airfield lighting and navigation systems, and other civil and electrical upgrades.
Delhi International Airport Limited said the runway has completed all required inspections, validations and regulatory approvals. The upgraded infrastructure is expected to support the airport’s growing traffic while improving efficiency, safety and long-term operational capacity.
