Air India A320 Stall Warning Incident Injures 24
An Air India A320 flying from Phuket to New Delhi issued a stall warning while its seatbelt signs were switched off, after the aircraft rapidly pitched up and down at 36,000 feet, Indian investigators said. The incident on August 4 injured 24 passengers and crew.
A preliminary report said all three hydraulic systems lost pressure within four seconds, causing the autopilot to disengage and triggering cockpit alarms. The aircraft initially climbed 372 feet before dropping 292 feet below its cruising altitude. Investigators have not yet determined what caused the hydraulic pressure loss.
The incident has added to growing safety scrutiny of Air India following the June 2025 crash of an Air India Boeing 787 in Ahmedabad. The airline said it is cooperating with investigators and has introduced mandatory substance testing for all pilots. The captain of the flight was also terminated after testing positive for a psychoactive substance.
