Bharat Forge, Thales Partner to Build 70-mm Rocket Systems in India

India’s Bharat Forge said its defence unit, Kalyani Strategic Systems (KSSL), has signed an agreement with France’s Thales to establish local manufacturing capabilities for advanced 70-mm rocket systems.

The partnership will combine Thales’ rocket technology and expertise from Belgium with KSSL’s engineering, manufacturing and testing capabilities in India. The 70-mm systems can be deployed from air, ground and naval platforms and may also be used against drones.

The Indian Army already uses the rocket systems, according to the companies. The first fully assembled rocket produced in India is expected in early 2027, as the partnership supports India’s push for greater self-reliance in critical defence technologies.
