Indian Women’s Panel Alleges Toxic Workplace Culture at TCS Back Office
India’s National Commission for Women has alleged a “toxic workplace environment” at a back-office unit of Tata Consultancy Services, citing widespread harassment, bullying and non-compliance with workplace sexual harassment laws. The findings followed a visit by the commission to the company’s Nashik facility, where employees reportedly described incidents of stalking, intimidation and inappropriate conduct targeting female staff.
The women’s rights panel said it found evidence of “pervasive harassment” and “systemic bullying,” including claims that some employees mocked Hindu mythology while harassing female colleagues. The commission added that the company showed “zero compliance” with India’s workplace sexual harassment prevention law, calling the situation a serious governance failure rather than a simple compliance lapse.
TCS, part of the Tata Group, has previously stated that it is cooperating with authorities and conducting its own internal investigation. Police have arrested at least six employees in connection with the allegations, while the company has suspended several staff members as investigations continue into the incidents at the Nashik office.
