Rahul Gandhi Slams Centre Over LPG Crisis, Compares Response to Covid Handling

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of mishandling the ongoing LPG gas crisis, alleging that the government’s approach mirrors its response during the Covid-19 pandemic—“devoid of policy, full of grand announcements,” and placing the burden on the poor. In a post on X, Gandhi highlighted the rising cost of cooking gas, stating that daily wage earners are struggling to afford basic necessities, forcing many to abandon cities and return to villages.

He further claimed that the crisis is severely impacting key sectors such as textiles and manufacturing, describing them as being in critical condition. Gandhi attributed the situation to what he called a “diplomatic blunder” by the government, warning that policy failures and economic strain are pushing labourers and industries to the brink. Questioning systemic inequality, he asked why the poor are always the worst affected during national crises and urged citizens not to remain silent.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi has acknowledged the challenges posed by global conditions, particularly the ongoing West Asia conflict, and has called for national preparedness and unity. The government has initiated measures to safeguard citizens, including diversifying LPG and LNG supply sources and ensuring adequate availability of essential resources. Officials have stated that steps are being taken to mitigate the impact of the crisis and maintain stability in energy supplies.
