Microsoft Sets October 2025 Deadline to End Windows 10 Support

Microsoft has announced that support for Windows 10 will officially end on 14 October 2025, marking a major shift for millions of PCs in India. After this date, the operating system will stop receiving updates, security patches, and technical support, leaving users with two options — upgrade to Windows 11 or purchase Extended Security Updates (ESUs).

Industry experts say the move is timely, as many systems purchased during the pandemic are due for replacement. Gartner analyst Ranjit Atwal noted that compliance-heavy sectors such as banking and healthcare cannot afford delays, with India’s PC market expected to grow 11% in 2025 partly due to this transition. However, extended support will cost over $60 (₹5,300+) per device, per year, posing challenges for firms with large device fleets.

Despite the deadline, Microsoft will continue limited support for key tools. Microsoft 365 apps will receive security updates until 2028, while Microsoft Defender Antivirus will keep getting critical fixes. PC makers say they are prepared, with most devices already Windows 11-ready, ensuring consumers and businesses have clear upgrade paths before the cut-off.
