Cyclone Dana Set to Strike Odisha and West Bengal on October 24

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding Cyclone Dana, expected to make landfall on the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal on Thursday, October 24. The weather system, which originated as a low-pressure area over the North Andaman Sea, is anticipated to intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 23. The IMD predicts that the cyclone will bring heavy rainfall to Odisha, with some regions expected to receive between 20 and 30 cm of rain from October 23 to 25. A red alert has been issued for several districts, including Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, and Jagatsinghpur.

In preparation for the impending cyclone, the Odisha government is ramping up its disaster management efforts. Officials are in constant communication with district administrations to ensure readiness for evacuations if necessary. The IMD has warned of high winds, reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h, and advised fishermen to return to shore by Monday evening. District collectors have been instructed to prepare cyclone shelters to accommodate residents who may need to evacuate from vulnerable areas.

The IMD has also forecasted heavy rainfall for coastal districts in West Bengal and parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh on October 24 and 25. Local authorities are on high alert, with emergency teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), prepared for rapid response as Cyclone Dana approaches.
