Manish Sisodia Sent To Tihar Jail Until March 20 In Liquor Policy Case

Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi, was detained in connection with the liquor policy case and will now be held in judicial custody through March 20. He will then be transferred to Tihar Prison. As his CBI custody ended, Mr. Sisodia was presented before the special court this afternoon.

He had been kept in CBI’s custody for five days after his detention. The central agency was given his custody for an additional two days by special judge MK Nagpal on Saturday.

According to the court, the AAP No. 2’s bail application will now be considered on Friday. Sources had previously stated that the CBI might not request more custody.In his bail petition, Mr. Sisodia, 51, said that repeatedly asking him the same questions was mentally harassing him.

Keeping him in detention, according to his attorney, will “serve no useful purpose” because all recoveries in the case have already been achieved. The “inefficiency of the agency” in completing the investigation, he added, cannot be a reason for remand. The CBI has been instructed by the court not to pose the same queries to Mr. Sisodia. Ask him if you have anything fresh, stated judge Nagpal.

According to the CBI, Mr. Sisodia was evasive and uncooperative when being questioned. Also mentioned were the amount of time spent during his medical test and the Supreme Court hearing on his bail request.After being arrested, the AAP leader requested relief from the highest court. But, the Supreme Court declined to step in and instructed him to contact the High Court. Under the liquor policy that was abandoned when Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena suggested a CBI investigation, Mr. Sisodia is accused of corruption.

The Arvind Kejriwal administration was charged with violating regulations and giving liquor vend licenses unfair advantages. The Delhi administration denied the accusations, claiming that the BJP had abused the investigative institutions for its own political ends. Mr Kejriwal has maintained the now-scrapped liquor regulation was the “most transparent policy in the country”.
